Concannon's Pastry Shop was established in 1959 by J. Michael and Wanda Concannon on Charles Street in downtown Muncie, Indiana. In 1978 we built a new facility at 620 N. Walnut Street and moved in. Since then -- thanks to a great response from customers like you -- we have remodeled and added square footage at least four times at that location. In 1978, Michael T. Concannon purchased the business from his parents. Concannon's is truly a rare family business, with the third generation now heavily involved. Marc Concannon is a trained baker and oversees all candy, popcorn and coffee production. We have diversified the bakery to include our gourmet popcorns, our house-roasted coffees and our own line of fine chocolates. In 2009 we opened our Bakery Café at 4801 W. Baker Lane on the north side of Muncie. Like our original shop, it has been enlarged due to customer demand as well. This shop showcases our full line of bakery products and is also home to our deli and coffee bar. We are so appreciate of our many long-time employees who make customer service a priority, and intensely grateful for the loyal customer following. HISTORY In September of 1971 Earl and Jim Smith opened for business in Rensselaer Indiana in the old F.O. Hershman John Deere building on Walnut Street as a Tractor Supply Franchise Store. We soon our grew our facility and moved to a new 10,000 sq. ft. building at our present location on the north side of Rensselaer in 1976. In 1978 another 5,000 sq. ft. was added to our building. June of 1981 saw another addition as Don and Earl Smith opened for business in the old Five Star Grocery in Knox Indiana. A 1,000 sq. ft. Radio Shack was opened inside of Smith Farm Store in Knox in 1991. In 2001 we saw yet another addition to our family; we purchased an Ace Hardware store in Plymouth Indiana. This store does by Smith's Ace Hardware and also Smith Farm Store. A year later there was yet another addition to the family; we opened out fourth store in Rochester Indiana. This store opened as a new store with 12,600 sq. ft. and they are busting at the seams. The latest addition came in December of 2006 when Don and Kim opened an internet store. Our first Christmas season was a success as our Internet store established new customers in 23 states and inquiries from as far away as Great Brittan. Our internet store has since grown and we are adding new things all the time. The internet store has been under going a lot of changes this past year in 2016 with its look and content. Smith Farm Store is truly a locally owned and operated company. All of the sons and the daughter of Earl Smith have worked in the stores at one time in their loves. The two sons worked for their father until the passing of Jim in 2009 and Don continues to run the family business today. [read more]
