Gibson’s was started in 1940 by Earl & Mildred Gibson (Ann Sheridan’s mom & dad). Gibson Arena was originally constructed as an ice skating rink. They could convert to a roller skating rink when there was no ice on the floor. The rink was converted solely to roller skating in 1949. Back in the day when there was still an Ice Plant on the property they also produced what many locals still proclaim to be the best ice cream they ever consumed. George & Ann Sheridan purchased the rink in 1969 from Ann’s parents and continued the family owned tradition. In 1979, they purchased an additional skating rink in New Castle to expand the family fun. As time moved on and their children grew up, Beth married Mark Griffith and they continue to manage the New Castle rink. Tom Sheridan now runs the day-to-day operations of the Muncie rink and also keeps the music playing during school parties & public sessions. Welcome to Royal South Toyota Charles Royal moved his family of five girls up from El Paso, Texas to Bloomington, Indiana back in 1968, when he purchased the local Chevrolet franchise. That was his first dealership in Bloomington, and over years, he added many franchises and dealerships to the Royal Group. He added Toyota in 1983! Much has changed since those first Toyota sedans we sold back in 1983--but the family who runs the dealership hasn't. Royal South Toyota is still a local, family run business, and Mr. Royal still comes to work every day with a passion for automobiles. It all started in 1980 as a novel concept: offer small runs of custom-printed napkins to the specialty advertising industry. Until then, only large quantities had been available. In a 2,000 square foot building, Founder Jim Tranter, MAS, thus conceived The 500 Line. Armed with his vision, two employees and a single-page sales sheet, he provided the opportunity for end-users all around the United States to order as few as 500 pieces for the first time. By 1996, a new level of demand was recognized for the growing corporate community. They desired higher quantities in much shorter lead times, but still at reasonable prices. Tranter responded and High Lines was born, a competitively priced line of food service products imprinted in high speeds at quantities of 10,000 or more with incredibly quick lead times: as fast as 10 days. With a vision of the finest Barbeque, Squealers Award Winning Barbeque hit the road to put their stamp on the BBQ competition circuit. The first step was to equip a well thought out design for their custom smokin’ wagon. The end result: A 30-foot enclosed trailer, with a 500 spk smoking bad boy with a 3-bay sink system and refrigeration. Very easy to see, it’s “all in” on this one. With the smokin’ wagon ready Squealers started their journey in the world of cooking outstanding barbeque. Competing and selling in more than 24 cities in 1999, Squealers got a real feel for what it takes to score high with the judges and win over the (now) loyal customers. Achieving over 65 awards at assorted National barbeque, World barbeque, and Ribfest events through the South, East, and Midwest, Squealers wanted to bring home all the expertise they had acquired. As the smoke grew high so did the need for Squealers to fuel the fire. In May of 2001 came the first Squealers dine-in barbeque restaurant in Mooresville, Ind., with 175 seats, a full bar, and a banquet room to hold 125 people. Concannon's Pastry Shop was established in 1959 by J. Michael and Wanda Concannon on Charles Street in downtown Muncie, Indiana. In 1978 we built a new facility at 620 N. Walnut Street and moved in. Since then -- thanks to a great response from customers like you -- we have remodeled and added square footage at least four times at that location. In 1978, Michael T. Concannon purchased the business from his parents. Concannon's is truly a rare family business, with the third generation now heavily involved. Marc Concannon is a trained baker and oversees all candy, popcorn and coffee production. We have diversified the bakery to include our gourmet popcorns, our house-roasted coffees and our own line of fine chocolates. In 2009 we opened our Bakery Café at 4801 W. Baker Lane on the north side of Muncie. Like our original shop, it has been enlarged due to customer demand as well. This shop showcases our full line of bakery products and is also home to our deli and coffee bar. We are so appreciate of our many long-time employees who make customer service a priority, and intensely grateful for the loyal customer following. HISTORY In September of 1971 Earl and Jim Smith opened for business in Rensselaer Indiana in the old F.O. Hershman John Deere building on Walnut Street as a Tractor Supply Franchise Store. We soon our grew our facility and moved to a new 10,000 sq. ft. building at our present location on the north side of Rensselaer in 1976. In 1978 another 5,000 sq. ft. was added to our building. June of 1981 saw another addition as Don and Earl Smith opened for business in the old Five Star Grocery in Knox Indiana. A 1,000 sq. ft. Radio Shack was opened inside of Smith Farm Store in Knox in 1991. In 2001 we saw yet another addition to our family; we purchased an Ace Hardware store in Plymouth Indiana. This store does by Smith's Ace Hardware and also Smith Farm Store. A year later there was yet another addition to the family; we opened out fourth store in Rochester Indiana. This store opened as a new store with 12,600 sq. ft. and they are busting at the seams. The latest addition came in December of 2006 when Don and Kim opened an internet store. Our first Christmas season was a success as our Internet store established new customers in 23 states and inquiries from as far away as Great Brittan. Our internet store has since grown and we are adding new things all the time. The internet store has been under going a lot of changes this past year in 2016 with its look and content. Smith Farm Store is truly a locally owned and operated company. All of the sons and the daughter of Earl Smith have worked in the stores at one time in their loves. Early in 1958, John & Sarah Mast hurried to the home of their friends, Harley & Mary Miller, to tell them the small orchard in Nappanee would be coming up for sale. So excited to see the property, Harley & Mary hopped in John’s buggy and told them “there is no time to waste hitching up my horse---we need to see it now!” Shortly thereafter Harley & Mary would go on to purchase the orchard. In 1958, Miller’s Orchard was formed. A modest orchard situated within the city limits of Nappanee, Indiana. Over the next six decades, Harley & Mary would go on to perfect their famous homemade Amish Apple Butter™ and fresh pressed unpasteurized cider. If you knew them, you knew that their orchard was about much more than just the apples. Blanketed in a true servant’s heart, the two of them would go on to love, serve and quietly provide for their community.
